Why Fatty Acids Need To Be in Every Child’s Lunchbox

Getting your child ready for school doesn't only involve school supplies but also healthy lunch boxes, filled with brain boosting fatty acids.

Back to school season is just around the corner. Not only do you have to worry about school supplies, but also about packing your child’s lunchbox. Just like most of us, there is no doubt that you want to make sure you pack a healthy and balanced lunch for that education-filled day. In recent years, the importance of foods rich in fatty acids has been the topic of conversation, especially when it comes to kids. They are especially crucial for children’s general health - from their head to their toes - quite literally.

omega 3

Omega-3 fatty acids for full potential tot

Several types of fatty acids exist out there, with omega-3s being the most popular. For children in particular, it has been proven that this type of fatty acid is crucial for healthy brain development. From attention and focus, to learning abilities, research has shown that omega-3s reputation precedes it in a child’s development. They have been known to help with concentration in conditions of ADD (attention deficit disorder) and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). So how can our children benefit? Foods such as fish, flax seeds, chia seeds, walnuts, (just to name a few) have a high content of omega-3 fatty acids. They therefore can make a difference when included in your child’s diet. It’s time to trade out the lunchbox items for delicious brain boosting foods rich in omega-3s.

Omega-6 fatty acid, another best friend

Another type of fatty acid, omega 6, is just as important as the rest. Just like its relative omega-3, this essential fatty acid is not synthesized by the body. Therefore, one of the ways to help your body get effective amounts is through the diet. Not only are they helpful for us adults, but also for children. Omega-6 have been shown to aid in brain development along with omega-3s. Foods such as evening primrose seed oil, safflower oil and vegetable oil have a high content of omega 6 fatty acids. It is ideal to include them in your child’s diet, even when they are at school, and help them support their brain power.

The road to a smarter lunchbox

The combination of both these essential fatty acids is more than beneficial to a child’s diet. Early development is key to paving the way for long term brain health. There is no denying that incorporating foods that are rich in fatty acids is the first step. Serve fish in kid-friendly ways by adding sweet and sour sauces to it. You can even add flax seeds to muffins, cookies, toasts, etc. Get creative! If this seems a bit challenging, you can complement your child’s diet with a supplement for kids, rich in a scientifically proven ratio of omega 3 and 6. EQUAZEN is the perfect example. Containing a clinically proven amount of omega 3’s derived from sardine oil, and of omega 6 from primrose oil, it helps support the development of the brain, eyes and nerves in children and adolescents. It also helps support cognitive health and brain function in our youngsters and even improves concentration levels in children and adolescents with ADHD.

By getting creative and incorporating essential and nutritious foods into the lunchboxes of even the pickiest eater, you can help boost your child’s overall health and pave the way to his or her success.
